Eden Area Interfaith Community Statement Regarding Shootings at Club Q and Walmart

12/1/2022

Wednesday, November 23, 2022

Dear Faith Community members,

It is with shock and deep sadness that we send this message to you regarding the shootings at Club Q in Colorado Springs, Colorado on Saturday, November 19, 2022, which took the lives of 5 LGBTQ+ individuals and injuring 17, and the shooting at a Walmart in Chesapeake, Virginia which took the lives of six, injuring six others on Wednesday, November 22, 2022.

The Club Q atrocity occurred just hours before a scheduled event memorializing the Transgender Day of Remembrance, an event that commemorates the individuals lost to anti-transgender violence — particularly those who are most vulnerable to this form of violence: BIPOC transgender women and femmes.

Eden Area Interfaith Council stands in solidarity against gun violence and with all who have been impacted by these events in Colorado and Virginia, and we grieve with the family, friends, neighbors, and communities. Such attacks are abhorrent and senseless. As we come together in support of one another, let us be reminded that it is through our unity, oneness of spirit, and faith in humanity to love that we will overcome these violent and unlawful actions on the part of others.
